As I was about to leave while out for a short spotting session, Auckland Airport welcomed the arrival of the Royal Australian Air Force P-8A while on delivery to the RAAF from Charleston. A47-003 is the third P-8 to enter the RAAF as they start to replace their ageing P-3 Orion's in their maritime surveillance fleet. The initial order of 8 Poseidon's will see them all operational by 2021 with an additional 7 to be introduced from the early until late 2020's.
This was my first filming session at the engineering services parking lot since this is heavily guarded by airport security however, I was very cautious and didn't draw attention to myself. It's obviously a great location but it's also obvious why there are very few videos recorded from this location. As always with a high fence there isn't much one can do except adapt which is what I attempted to do by reducing my aperture to it's lowest for the zoom I used.
